The Herald Press, St. Joseph, Michigan
Article: 14 August 1943
Title:  Motorman Suffers Heart Attack; Two Killed in Chicago Trolly Crash
CHICAGO, Aug 14 (AP) A Street car, running wild after its motorman collapsed of a heart attack rammed into a standing street car last night, killing two persons and injuring a dozen others.
Fred J Wischwch, 52, the motorman who slumped over the controls as his car approached a busy north side intersection, escaped with a double fracture of the left leg, but one of the two fatalities was a motorman off duty, CLYDE V. MALBONE, 40.  The other was Charles A. Franden, 53, a passenger.
MALBONE, And Franden were riding on the front platform of Wischwch's car.
Alertness of persons waiting to board cars at the triple crossing on Lincoln, Fullerton and Halstead streets saved others.  Seeing the car approach without cutting speed they shouted to Joseph Schwartz, Jr., 26, conductor on the rear platform of the standing trolly car.  He jumped and pushed an unidentified passenger off the platform with him just before Wischwch's car struck.
